Ode To Brown

One of my closest friends in the entire world is a bird, who I call Brown. He lives in my backyard, and every time I go outside, he flies right up to greet me, and most often lands upon me. We have been close for a few years, and have a very special friendship.  He sees me and he knows that I see him.

The two of us spend a lot of time together. He flies right up whenever I step outside, and chirps happily as he looks me in the eye. He sits beside me when I sit outside...and stands close beside me wherever I am standing...

He also likes to sit upon my shoulder or upon my hand...When I am out watering the plants on the deck or arranging my flower pots, he walks beside me, inspecting everything I’ve done. He walks beside me when I walk in the grass. He also comes to my window and greets me through the glass, looking in, and always sits on the branch outside my window and watches me whenever I am playing the piano...And doesn’t fly away until my last song is done.

And he loves to watch the light...

He also loves to look at beauty...and is curious and interested in so many things, coming close to investigate and look at things...

...like this plant I picked and left for him...

Every morning, when he first wakes up, he has a small case of bedhead,  which I find so very sweet...

...before it  tames back down...

He also has special sounds he makes to me that mean different things that he will call from outside to me when I am in. He has one sound that means “cat!” – that says with urgency, “there is a cat in the backyard – come get it!”  and the second I hear it I run outside and chase the cat off the property. He will fly beside me as I am chasing the cat, and then land on me after the cat is gone and he feels safe again. Every time he makes that sound, there is always a cat. And every time I hear it, I come running and chase the various cats away. The cats don’t know what to make of this alliance…

He trusts me explicitly...it is such an honor...I know how lucky I am...There are connections in this lifetime, rare and precious connections, that sometimes come but once.  This friendship with Brown is one of those, a rare and precious gift, that never will come again in this exact form. I can't even begin to tell you just how much he means to me...There are many birds, but only one Brown. I am so madly, madly in love with him. He is so very special and important to me...and so very beautiful too. Look...Here are a few of my photos, from the past year, of him. Oh sweet Brown...

To me, he is the one of the most beautiful and special souls I've ever known...

He is a truly cherished friend.

I love you, dear Brown! I am so lucky, and grateful, to know you in this life...

Thank you, my friend.
